Thessaloniki Pride is a civil society organisation founded by a group of motivated young gay people in Thessaloniki in 2012, an era when the broader civil society in the city experienced a striking awakening. Its mission has been to promote equality, support human rights and enhance visibility of the sexual and gender minorities in Thessaloniki and beyond. The initial vision that brought the founding members together was to establish the city’s annual LGBT pride festival. Soon after the unexpectedly big success of the 1st Thessaloniki Pride, the organisation expanded its activities in projects for community services, advocacy, social intervention and information, held throughout the year in the city and its periphery, and networking with other LGBTI organisations at international level. Moreover, Thessaloniki Pride holds the title of EuroPride 2024. Currently Thessaloniki Pride has an 11-member steering board, a 8-member secretariat, which coordinates all the activities and a wide network of volunteers, whose number fluctuates between 50 and 80 people, depending on the part of the year. |
